3 Different Types of Copilots
Microsoft offers a wide range of AI solutions. With Microsoft’s product logos multiplying and changing constantly, it’s hard to keep track of which one does what!
Aastha Patel, Technical Specialist at Microsoft, broke down the various types of Copilots into three categories during one of our recent webinars on AI readiness. Here, we put more context around those categories and which Copilots fit into each one.
1. Productivity-Specific: Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot (M365 Copilot) is at the core of all Copilots, enhancing productivity for everyone across the full Microsoft 365 modern workplace ecosystem (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, and OneDrive, etc.)

Copilot for Service

Copilot for Finance

One of the most powerful applications of Copilot Studio is the ability to build AI Agents also known as “Copilot Agents.” Unlike traditional Copilots that assist users while they work, agents can operate independently, executing workflows, handling customer inquiries, and making decisions based on predefined logic and business data.
