Microsoft recently announced that SharePoint 2010 Workflows will be retired in the next few months.
You may be using SharePoint 2010 workflows even if you’re on a new version of SharePoint – SharePoint 2010 workflows run in all SharePoint versions.
Bottom line: If you’re using SharePoint, you need to evaluate your current environment to determine if it is at risk of losing functionality when workflows are retired in the next few months.
C5 Insight recommends migrating to Power Automate to maintain continuity in your business processes. All Microsoft 365 licenses include the usage of the Power Platform, which includes the Power Automate solution.
What is the Impact of Retiring SharePoint 2010 Workflows?
August 1, 2020: SharePoint 2010 workflows will be turned off for newly created tenants in Microsoft 365.
November 1, 2020: Microsoft will begin to remove the ability to run SharePoint 2010 workflows for existing Microsoft 365 tenants.
Find Out if You Use SharePoint 2010 Workflows
Microsoft has provided a tool for customers to run, SharePoint Modernization Scanner tool, which will scan your tenant for legacy workflow usage. The tool helps you identify if you’re using SharePoint 2010 workflows, sites using the workflows, and the upgradability to Power Automate.
What about SharePoint 2013 Workflows?
SharePoint 2013 workflows will remain supported although depreciated, until 2026.
C5 Insight’s Recommendation: Begin considering transitioning your SharePoint 2013 Workflows to Power Automate or other supported solutions.
Beginning November 2020, SharePoint 2013 workflows will be turned off by default for new M365 tenants. Microsoft has indicated that they will provide a PowerShell script to let customers activate SharePoint 2013-based workflows for tenants as needed.
What if you are a SharePoint On-Premise customer?
SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 workflows will continue to be supported for on-premises environments, including SharePoint 2016 and SharePoint 2019 Server platforms until 2026.
Now is the time to begin creating your new workflows using Power Automate, and to develop a roadmap to migrate your existing workflows.
