In Microsoft’s 2026 release wave 1 plan for Dynamics 365 Customer Insights – Journeys, we see the kinds of updates that help Journeys feel less like a campaign tool in a silo and more like a platform that supports better customer orchestration across teams.
Here’s a look at what’s being released between April 2026 and September 2026.
1. Set message expirations to keep communication relevant
Public preview: March 2026
General availability: May 2026
Microsoft is adding expiration rules on message tiles so teams can stop emails, texts, push notifications, and custom channels from sending communications after they’re no longer relevant.
Expiration options include:
- No expiry
- Based on a date and time
- Based on a trigger
Reporting will also show which customers did not receive a message because it expired. This is one of the most practical updates in the release. It helps prevent late event reminders, expired offers, and other mistimed messages that make journeys feel disconnected from reality.
2. Dynamic content blocks that update new changes across emails
Public preview: April 2026
General availability: July 2026
Content blocks in Customer Insights – Journeys already help marketers save time, but until now, updates have stayed static once a block is added to an email. Starting in April, that changes with dynamic content blocks. When a content block is updated (Assets > Content Blocks), emails using that block will automatically reflect the latest version.
Marketers will also be able to see which emails will be affected before making a change. Personalization, including dynamic text and conditional content, will still be supported, and static content blocks will still be available as an option.
This feature update will make reusable content like standard disclaimers, event details, footers, and standard promotional copy much easier to manage at scale.
3. Create any record or activity directly from a journey
Public preview: April 2026
General availability: not listed
Marketers will soon be able to create records and activities directly from a journey, including:
- Tasks
- Phone calls
- Leads
- Opportunities
- Custom records
Microsoft says the feature will support required and optional fields, custom attributes, and dynamic values from contact or lead data, all from a single tile in the journey builder.
Because it works across both contact-based and lead-based journeys, it should give teams a more consistent way to trigger follow-up actions. It also reduces the need for separate workflows or custom triggers, making automation easier to build and maintain. Instead of stopping at engagement, a journey can help move the next step forward automatically.
4. Boost customer confidence with branded content links
Public preview: September 2026
General availability: December 2026
Long Microsoft-generated tracking links in your emails can look messy at best and suspicious at worst. Branded content links are the solution.
Starting in September, teams can enable custom links that show their company name in URLs across emails, hosted digital assets, forms, event registration pages, and the preference centers.
Branded links strengthen brand recognition, create a cleaner experience for recipients, and improve click confidence because the links appear more trustworthy. For marketing teams, that means one less thing working against your campaign after all the effort that went into building it!
5. Copilot-powered conversational text messaging
Public preview: not listed
General availability: April 2026
Instead of limiting text messages to simple one-word replies or confirmations, Microsoft is adding Copilot-powered conversational text messaging. That means teams will be able to design journeys that support more natural back-and-forth interactions over SMS.
Microsoft says the feature will work with Dynamics 365 Contact Center and Copilot Studio agents, while still using existing SMS settings like consent and quiet times. It will also support reporting on conversation attempts, outcomes, and results.
For teams using text messaging, this opens the door to more interactive use cases without treating SMS like a one-way channel.
